Processing at Destination USPS: Ultimate Guide

Processing at Destination USPS

Are you expecting a package to be delivered by the USPS? If so, you might come across the “Processing at Destination” update in your Tracking Update.

Do you know what it really means? USPS may also provide several other updates like “Redelivery Scheduled”, or “Departed USPS Regional Facility” depending on why your package might be stuck on this update.

What does the “USPS Processing at Destination” update Mean?

The “Processing at Destination” means that your package has arrived at the required destination facility of USPS and is yet to get processed and moved forward to the local post office. From there it will be delivered to the final recipient within the expected delivery date.

Besides that, there are a lot of different updates that come along with the “Processing at Destination” status. It will help you to track your order more efficiently.

What’s the meaning of “Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)”?

When you receive “Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)” from USPS, it means that there was no one present at the recipient’s address to receive the package when the delivery boy tried to deliver it.

When something like this happens another delivery attempt is always made so that the package somehow gets delivered again to the recipient.

After the first delivery attempt, now you have to decide whether you want to wait for the second delivery attempt or you want to go to your local post office and pick up your package on your own.

If you are thinking of picking up your order on your own then let me remind you that you need a PS Form 3849 and your Personal Identification details(photocopy if required).

If you don’t have the PS Form 3849 then you need to visit your local post office and provide them with your tracking number along with the photo ID showing the correct shipping address so that they can verify that you are the true recipient of the package.

When picking up a package at the post office, USPS may require your signature to verify your identity. The postal worker will scan the package when you pick it up as proof of delivery. If you received a PS Form 3849 notice slip in your mailbox, bring it with you – the post office staff will collect the slip when you pick up your package.

They will store the notice slip for their records to show the package was officially retrieved. Having the PS Form 3849 will make the pickup process faster and ensure the package is released to the correct recipient.

What’s the meaning of “Redelivery Scheduled” in USPS?

When your tracking status shows “Redelivery Scheduled”, it means that a delivery attempt was made at the recipient’s address but it was unsuccessful for some reason (e.g., nobody was home, incorrect address, etc). So, the USPS has scheduled another redelivery so that the package can get successfully delivered this time.

If you want your package to get redelivered on the very same day then you need to fill out this redelivery request by 2 AM CST. If you somehow forget to schedule your redelivery then USPS will automatically deliver your package within the next week, which you can easily track in Tracking Status.

What’s the Meaning of “Arrived at USPS Regional Destination Facility”?

“Arrived at USPS Regional Facility” means that your package has successfully reached the final destination facility of the USPS where it will be scanned and processed to move forward to the final post office so that it can be delivered on time to the final recipient.

In normal scenarios, a package usually takes less than a few hours to get processed and sent for final delivery after arriving at the facility. If the facility is experiencing backlogs and long queues then it can easily take more than a working day to get sorted and sent the packages for delivery.

What’s the Meaning of “Departed USPS Regional Destination Facility”?

The Departed USPS Regional Facility means that your parcel has left the regional destination facility of USPS where it gets processed and sent out for the final delivery to the required recipient address.

Once a package leaves the regional destination facility, there will no longer be any processing or sorting before delivery. Under normal situations, the package should be delivered either the same day or the next business day if the update was received late in the day.

Sometimes a package may remain stuck on the “departed facility” update if the shipping agent forgets to scan it again before the final delivery. In this case, the recipient may receive the package without their tracking status being updated, and the tracking history will only show delivered after the package has already arrived at the recipient’s address.

Why a Package Remains Stuck at “Processing at Destination?”

Backlogs

As usual, USPS experiences processing backlogs, especially during the peak seasons like holidays, and after a Grand Sale when the package volume are all-time high. With thousands of packages coming daily to get processed and scanned, along with the long queues of backlogs, it can easily cause overflow which in turn increases the workload of the staff.

When backlogs occur, packages remain stuck in transit and show as “processing at destination” longer than normal before moving to the next stage.

Backlogs can still be inconvenient for customers who are expecting time-sensitive mail and packages to get delivered on time.

Bad Weather Conditions

If extreme weather events like snowstorms, hurricanes, or floods arise during the transportation of packages then it can easily cause delays of days & even weeks which further causes your tracking status to remain stuck on “Processing”.

Even if the delivery truck somehow manages to arrive at the destination facility from where the package will be scanned and sent for the final delivery to the recipient’s address, still no one will put their life in danger to get out and unload the packages(if the situation is worse).

Wrong Tracking ID

This happens a lot when there is a wrong tracking for your package which causes your tracking status to remain stuck on the “Processing at Destination” even when the package is out for delivery.

The common reason why your package has the wrong tracking status is that the sender might have somehow put someone else label on your package which causes the tracking page to remain stuck at the “Processing at the destination” update.

The funny part about this is that the Tracking Status remains stuck on the very same update until you physically receive the package from the delivery boy then USPS Updates it directly to ‘delivered’.

What should I do when my package is stuck on “Processing at Destination” Update?

If your package remains stuck under the “Processing at Destination” Update for more than 2 days then you need to contact USPS and let them know that something is wrong with your package.

You can either fill out the form and wait for the reply or you can directly call customer care and describe the whole issue. I have been there and for me, the calling is the easiest option that always worked for me.

If you are not available to pick up your package then you need to visit the local post office along with the PS Form 3849 and your personal Identification details, after verifying your identity they will hand over your package to you.

Lastly, even if you don’t want to go to the local post office then you can reschedule your delivery so that you will be there when the package finally arrives to receive it.
