If you are expecting a package to get delivered and no one is at home to receive it then you are sure to get ‘No Authorized Recipient Available” from USPS indicating that no one was at the delivery address to accept the package.
In this article, I provide all the relevant information about what you need to do in case you have received this status. So stick on to the post and you are all good to go.
What’s the Meaning of “No Authorized Recipient Available”?
It’s a standard shipping term often used by the shipping carrier to indicate to the recipient that they tried to the package to the required delivery address but no one was there to accept the and sign the paper.
However, if you have opted for the signature release options then you may not need anyone to be available at the location to deliver the packages.
But if you have not opted for this option then you need to have someone authorized to present at your delivery address to accept and sign the documentation as proof that the package was delivered to the right person.
Why does my Package have this status?
If you have got this update then it indicates that there was no one available to receive and accept your package at the delivery. But that’s not the case with every single package, there are a lot of other reasons why your package can get status. Here’s a brief overview of a few of them:
No One Was Home
It’s the most common reason why your package has got this ‘No Authorized’ status as no one was at home when the delivery person tried to deliver the package. In such cases, all the shipping carriers try to redeliver the package in the coming days before sending it back to the local post office.
Invalid Delivery Address
If the provided delivery addresses are incorrect and contain a typo(wrong spelled) then the delivery person may not be able to deliver the package as he doesn’t know where the exact location to deliver the package.
If that’s the condition with your package then you need to contact your shipping carrier and provide them with the correct delivery address before the 2nd delivery so you can get your package without facing any more delay.
Access Restriction
If you live in a building or apartment that has restricted access or a complex gated community then the delivery person may not be able to deliver your package which can also be the reason why your package has got this status.
In such scenarios, your packages are often sent back to the local delivery address in case the second delivery attempt also fails. So the best thing you can do there is to pick up your package on your own from the local post office via proofing you are the actual recipient of the consignment.
Safety Concerns
If the delivery person determines that it’s not safe to deliver and leave the package unattended as there might be a risk of theft then he may take it back with himself and send it back to the local post office.
Although it happens very rarely and totally up to the goodwill of the delivery person. In such scenarios, you may receive a notification stating that the package may not be able to get delivered because no one was home to receive it.
How long Post Office Keep the Package in case of a failed delivery attempt?
If the initial delivery attempt of a package fails, then almost all the shipping carriers try to redeliver the package but if they again fail to do so, then they send the package local post office of that particular area where the package was supposed to get delivered.
There it remains for almost 2 weeks as a “waiting period” before they are finally sent back to the sender.
What To Do If I Got This Notice on My Tracking Status?
If the initial delivery attempt of your package is failed then there is nothing to worry about. You can still get your package, these are a bunch of options that you can do to get it back:
Pick on Your Own
If your package has failed to get delivered then you can also pick it up from the local post office within the next 14 days before it’s sent back to the original sender. The timeframe allows the recipient to pick up the order as they might be busy during the first delivery attempt.
Remember to have a valid photo ID to prove you are the original recipient of the package.
Schedule a Redelivery
Usually, all the shipping carriers provide an option for redelivery of the consignment if the initial delivery attempt of your package has failed. So, schedule a convenient time as your preference, for the redelivery attempt so that the package can get delivered without any further delay.
Authorize Your Next Door Neighbor
If you are too busy with your work schedule then you can also authorize your neighbor to receive your package on your behalf. However, this may not be a suitable option for everyone.
But it can be the best alternative for your next-door neighbors who are friendly and kind enough to receive the package on your behalf.
Go Ahead With Parcel Locker Delivery
If your area has parcel lockers then opt for one, so your package can get delivered in it instead of being delivered at your home. Now to get the package just put on the right code and you are all good to go.
